Here are some things to consider when shipping your products to customers during these COVID-19 times.

Inform Customers about Delays in Shipping Time

During the early months of the outbreak, with people staying at home due to the lockdown, online orders increased, and more small packages were reaching consumers directly.

Online orders have rapidly increased since March and businesses across the UK are scrambling to meet the increased demand.

Be sure to notify your customers that there might be delays in shipping. Announce this on your website, in order confirmation emails and even by sending text messages. This will keep them informed, helping you avoid attending enquiries about delayed deliveries.

Package Sanitisation

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine concludes that the virus can be viable for up to 24 hours on cardboard and even longer on stainless steel and plastic.

However, that is no reason to panic. Infectious disease experts suggest that people are unlikely to get COVID-19 from surfaces. The WHO says, “the likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low.”

However, if you are still worried, be sure to sanitise the packages before shipping and ask your customers to do the same before opening them.

Social Distancing Measures

When receiving parcels, customers should follow social distancing guidelines and keep a distance of at least one to two metres.

When the parcel is out for delivery, call the shipper to let them know if there’s a safe place where they can leave the parcel for contactless delivery.
